According to a source named “Doug” who is affiliated with a private investigation company called WillSpy.com, The recent raid of AP/UB offices had little if nothing to do with the US Department of Justice’s seizure of those sites domains and monies on “Black Friday.” That is to say that the Costa Rican equivalent to the FBI, the OIJ, conducted the raids under much different circumstances than were originally reported.

Further, our source informed us that no DOJ officials were present during any of the raids and the criteria for such an event to occur would require the DOJ to prove the knowing infraction of Costa Rican laws. Currently those laws do not prohibit the business of housing a poker room or sportsbook’s headquarters in Costa Rica. He went on to say that the OIJ’s raid was quite unorganized and did not target the poker offices directly. Instead they conducted a blind raid of sorts and went door to door knocking, ensuring that companies within their jurisdiction were complying with all of the country’s labor laws. For the most part, all the companies were in compliance although they did seize files and computers from one customer service office. Poker rooms and sportsbooks were not the only target and other non-egaming companies were also targeted. That would certainly mesh with the reports that UB employees filed complaints to the “Ministry of Work” concerned that they would not be paid after UB conducted layoffs. None of this has been absolutely confirmed but all known indications point to its apparent truth. We will have much more as this story unfolds.
