More than half of the field survived Day 1 of the third Epic Poker League Main Event, but by the time the first level of Day 2 was over more than one-third of the remaining players had been eliminated. Just 40 of the 61 players who came back for Day 2 of the Mix-Max Event would play any later into the day on Thursday, but that pace could not and would not be maintained.
Four former Epic Poker League final tablists were part of the early carnage: Chino Rheem, Nam Le, Huck Seed, and Isaac Baron. Erik Seidel and Eugene Katchalov who made Epic Poker League final tables previously were also eliminated. Noah Schwartz is the overnight chip leader, followed closely by Faraz Jaka, David Williams and Michael Mizrachi. Closing out the top five is the last remaining woman in the field, Vanessa Rousso. Three members of the GPI Top 10 are still in contention; Mercier (3rd), Sam Stein (6th), and Sorel Mizzi (9th) are each looking to improve upon their already impressive positions.
When Day 3 begins, the blinds will be 1,200/2,400 with a 400 chip ante. The average stack is 200,000, giving most of the players a lot of room to maneuver. There will be 6-handed tables all day, and play will continue until there are twelve players remaining and the money bubble is busted. Day 4 will be played out at three four-handed tables.
