second practice for DCW-OTR 4/21/12

It was another long day for the DCW Motorsports team, we left the house at 730am to head to the track, both boys were reeving and ready to hit the asphalt, after meeting with the Dions (who i give all the credit for the boys cars handling so well) our caravan of trucks and trailers were on the road to the track.

For DJ in the 22 the day started with the words " dad i don't have my helmet" lucky for him the wife had just texted that her work had canceled and she was coming to the…

Life is strange, whens its changing, yes indeed

As mentioned in my first entry, my job was being eliminated. I also posted that I work for a good company. Well now I have been promoted to a regional position. Good for cash flow, bad for poker experiment as far as live game action. Good news is I will be traveling to Florida (live poker) Mobile Alabama (Biloxi Baby) and Louisville Kentucky (live games?).

What did I change that is adding large percentages to my bankroll?

I have always been what I consider a breakeven player with a slight advantage on some nights that make up winnings. Quite honestly I win a lot of hands and lose just a few less.

So here is what I have changed at the cash table.

1.Instead of my usual 3 hr session time I have adopted this stategy. Game over as soon as I double up or close there after.

2. Instead of playing solid at first, building a lead, then using the lead to gamble in an attempt to win bigger hands with…

So I want to be a professional poker player, wonder how this is going to turn out?

7 days ago while chatting in the OTR room after the late Thursday night game the subject of cash games come up. A member shared with me a place that I could play locally and test my skills.

Recently my job of 17 years has been targeted for elimination. I work for a good company and have been offered a transfer but I am considering changing to poker as a profession. My goal on this blog is to document this journey and answer the question for myself. I also hope to provide…

First time on the track in 2012 for DCW/OTR Motorsports (4-7-12)

The first practice of the year is always an adventure, this year was it was even more exciting than normal. With our 10 year old rookie driver Hans in the 02 and 3rd season driver Dj in the 22 we were at both ends of the spectrum of fast and slow.

The rookie Hans started out slow but picked up as the day went along and his confidence and comfort built up, starting the day with lap in the 24 second range and endinig with a best of 19.257 seconds, he only ended up in the infield mowing…

Embrace The Bad Beat??

I have read several books where they say, "Embrace The Bad Beat."  If you are getting bad beats this means you are getting your money in as a favorite.  The job of a poker player is to get your money in good and make your opponent make mistakes. So if you are getting bad beats you are doing your job and you shouldn't be upset.

Really?

I started a little monthly poker league in 2005.  There is a 24 player limit and we toss in $20.00 and we have had the same guys playing…
