After spending alot of time this week (over 40 hours, over 100 man hours) and alot of money getting 2nd car ready and putting new engines and fuel systems in both cars we went to the track and the engines would not run properly.

After trying to get the main car to run properly and failing we took out the backup car, which also failed to run properly.

Both cars have engines that were built by different builders,so that means that the only two things they have in common is driver and fuel.

After taking some fuel out of one of the cars we noticed it was cloudy and when dumped on the ground and lit on fire it crackles like a bowl of rice crisps.

We have always bought our fuel at Mobil (we started today with a fresh can of gas) and it looks like we got fuel with water in it, which instantly fouls the spark plugs which causes a major loss of power.

Yes we were very disappointed but we are not ready to give up yet, we have next week off because it is a holiday weekend, so over the next 2 weeks we will remove both fuel cells (gas tanks) clean them out, take apart the carbs and fuel pumps and replace all fuel lines again, then both cars are going onto a chassis dyno so we can check both engines and make sure the problem is 100% fixed before we go back to racing in 2 weeks.

We are very sorry to our sponsors for the disappointing showing the last 3 weeks and are working diligently to get back running in the front of the pack

car number one was raced the friday before, it had a brand new carb, pump, filter and lines, car number two was put togather that week, car one had leftover fuel from the week prior mixed with the new fuel we bought that night, car number two had a dry fuel cell at 7am, i went to the station and bought a gallon that morn so we could start the motor, the rest of the fuel in it was bought at the same station that afternoon, the amount of water in the fuel would not have affected a normal street car but these honda 390 engines which are modified to 20 hp plus and need to make 400 degree heat and 3100rpm to make our restricted speed of 74mph on seekonk speedway are very sensitive to even a little water, i take any leftover fuel and put it in my truck after each race so we start with fresh fuel each week

I was a auto tech for 25 yrs, built race engines and also was a crew member on a race team at a local track, I don't know how long the cars were sitting, We always cleaned the fuel system, if the cars were sitting a month or longer. It is very rare to pick up water from a gas station. Most states check for that when the come to do the flow tests which are every 2 to 3 months. So more than likely it was already present from the cars sitting. I just wonder why you are using racing fuel, also if you can only get racing fuel at that station, then I would let them know. Here in florida you can only get racing fuel at the track. Just some thoughts.
